Market Report

ALERT STATUS

ASPARAGUS
Weather in Mexico has been good and they are starting to cut ferns. We expect quality to be great and markets to ease by the end of next week. For now, prices are high.

AVOCADOS
Volumes are expected to ramp up and quality is good. Prices are dropping slowly.

BEANS - GREEN
Supplies have started to tighten up due to the recent cold weather in Florida. Expect prices to rise and quality may suffer a bit.

BERRIES - BLACK / BLUE / RASPBERRY
Mixed Berry supplies have improved across the board with more shipments out of Mexico for Raspberries and Blackberries, and increased Chilean arrivals on Blueberries. Prices are lower.

BERRIES - STRAWBERRY
Supplies are very limited in California due to rains and weather events, as well as the cold weather that Florida has been experiencing. This will shorten the market for a couple of weeks and prices will remain higher during this period.

BROCCOLI / CAULIFLOWER
Due to higher prices, demand has fallen off drastically and prices are beginning to normalize.

CELERY
The market is steady with product coming from Oxnard, Santa Maria, and Yuma, as well as Mexico and soon, Florida.

CILANTRO / PARSLEY / GREEN ONION
Green Onion supplies out of Mexico are improving as the workforce gets back on track after the holidays. Prices are dropping. Cilantro and Parlsey markets are a bit active due to gaps in Oxnard, but Yuma and Mexico are helping to fill the gaps.

CITRUS - LEMONS / LIMES / ORANGES
Lemons and Oranges continue to be in short supply and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Several Citrus varietals including Mandarins and Blood Oranges are available. The Lime supplies are improving but strong demand is keeping the market active.

CORN
Prices have dropped a little. Still experiencing some small gaps in product as the colder weather over the past couple of weeks has slowed production. As weather returns to normal patterns these should become more readily available.

CUCUMBERS
Some quality and production issues out of Mexico. Product from Honduras is ramping up. Prices will remain high but we should not have any issues stocking product.

EGGPLANT
Prices remain a little on the higher side. Still able to get domestic and offshore product. Quality remains good.

GRAPES
Import product has been arriving steadily with excellent quality, but prices remain higher. As supplies improve, prices will drop.

LETTUCE
Lettuce and Leaf markets are steady with good supply and little demand. Quality defects from weather patterns include blister and epidermal peel.

MELONS
Watermelon supplies continue to struggle and prices remain high. Cantaloupe and Honeydew supplies are steady with excellent quality.

ONIONS
Product quality is good and product availability is fine. A major area of concern is transportation cost and securing equipment to transport product. We expect prices to rise slightly.

PEPPERS
Supplies on Green Pepper are starting to ease a bit. Better supplies out of Florida and also some relief out of Mexico. Prices should continue to come down as volumes ramp up. Red and Yellow Pepper supplies are improving with favorable weather out of Mexico. Prices are lower but still above average.

POTATOES
Prices are rising a bit. Weather has been an issue as well as limited packing hours. Also transportation is a major issue and causing huge increases in freight cost.

SQUASH / ZUCCHINI
Supplies are getting better and prices are falling slowly. As weather normalizes we should see more availability and prices will continue to fall.

STONEFRUIT
Import Stonefruit is becoming more available. Is it mostly going to retail and will hit peak volumes by February. Overall, quality is excellent.

TOMATOES - ROUND / ROMA / GRAPE / CHERRY
Tomatoes are finally starting to produce again after a major crisis. Prices are falling and more product will become available.
