Market Report

ALERT STATUS

ASPARAGUS
Northern and Southern Peru are now in full production. Overall markets are stronger this week with anticipation of holiday ads.

AVOCADOS
Growers are expecting to maintain current harvest levels so we can expect markets to be steady for now.

BEANS - GREEN
Supplies remain tight but there is more product to be had than a week ago. Prices are dropping some but hopefully in another week we should be back to normal.

BERRIES - BLACK / BLUE / RASPBERRY
Blueberry supplies are lighter this week due to storms in Argentina and Chile still a couple weeks from good volume. Blackberry and Raspberry production has gone to Mexico and supplies are improving.

BERRIES - STRAWBERRY
Heavy rain mixed with heat in Salinas/Watsonville is shifting supplies towards Santa Maria and Oxnard. Santa Maria production and Oxnard just starting so supplies are tight all around, quality is average, and prices are high. Florida will start in the next couple of weeks.

BROCCOLI / CAULIFLOWER
Cauliflower supplies are extremely limited and prices are high. The Broccoli market has settled with better supplies out of Mexico and California, with Arizona and Georgia starting to help.

CELERY
As the Thanksgiving pull approaches, supplies are lighter and prices are up. Michigan has finished and California is transitioning from Salinas to Oxnard. Florida's crop was damaged with fall hurricanes and will not begin until late December.

CILANTRO / PARSLEY / GREEN ONION
Supplies continue to improve with excellent quality out of California and Mexico.

CITRUS - LEMONS / LIMES / ORANGES
Most California shippers are now packing but demand exceeds supplies on Oranges. Florida shippers are improving supplies and prices are coming down. Lemons continue to be in light supplies as we move growing areas. Limes remain steady with good supply and quality.

CORN
Georgia is completely done and Florida is not ready. Prices went way up and there is pretty much no product available. Expect a gap for the next week or so and for prices to remain extremely high.

CUCUMBERS
Georgia is the only real ballgame in town with any volume. There is a little Mexican product available but not much to offset. Product will remain tight and prices will be on the high side until Florida production kicks in.

EGGPLANT
Product is still extremely tight. Prices are way above average and not much choice product available. Everything being packed is fancy which will continue to drive the market up.

GRAPES
Domestic supplies should continue for the next 3-4 weeks. Starting to see some amber and quality issues in Green varieties due to older fruit but overall quality remains excellent.

LETTUCE
As we transition growing regions, Lettuce and Leaf items are now available in four growing regions helping with supplies and steadying the market. Yuma will be in full production by Thanksgiving.

MELONS
Cantaloupe and Honeydews are transitioning from California and Mexico, and import fruit will start showing up in the next couple of weeks. Cantaloupe is a bit snug but Honeydew is in good supply. Domestic Watermelon is very tight due to crop loss in Georgia and a slow start in Florida.

ONIONS
Supplies are good. Prices are moderate and remain a little on the high side. There are some grubblings that sizing may be an issue this year but nothing for sure.

PEPPERS
Due to recent cold weather in South Georgia, Green Peppers have tightened up. No relief from Florida for the next couple of weeks. Prices will continue to rise and supplies will be tight. Red Pepper supplies are very light as we transition into Southern California and Mexico. The market is very active and prices are high. Yellow Peppers are in better supply and lesser demand so prices are normal.

POTATOES
Potato volume is good on the larger sizes. Smaller sizes remain on the lighter side and are accompanied with high freight costs. Prices have risen. This will remain the same through the winter months. On a good note, we should start seeing more Burbanks soon.

SQUASH / ZUCCHINI
Both Yellow Squash and Zucchini are plentiful. Prices have dropped and we are able to pull product out of both Georgia and Florida. This is the best value right now on eastern vegetables.

STONE FRUIT
Plums continue to ship in good supplies and quality. Pomegranate supplies are very light. Persimmons are also available.

TOMATOES - ROUND / ROMA / GRAPE / CHERRY
Tomatoes remain severe. Prices are extremely high and product is very tight. Pretty much all shippers have declared the Act of God clause on all contracts. Relief is not expected until the end of December.
