TOMATO AND ONION PRICES ARE RISING
Tomatoes and Onions are affected by weather issues at this time. Florida Tomatoes are suffering from too much rain and quality is not good. Product is limited and prices are much higher. Expect this to continue over the next few week. California onion supplies are very limited due to unseasonably cool temperatures and sporadic rain in the valley. Yellow onions were sold out for the week by this morning. Most shippers are only covering contracts with what limited product they have available. Staining is being quoted on the root end of the some of the onions that have been sitting in the damp soil. This should not affect the quality but it will affect the appearance of the onion.
Rain again is forecast for this weekend and possibly Tuesday so next week will prove to be another week with very limited supplies. There are 2 of our main suppliers that think they will gap at the end of next week and into the following week. Please have all orders for loading next week in as early as possible, preferably at least 72 hours prior to shipping.
New Mexico is up and running but they have had a slow start as well. Supplies in New Mexico should be a little better next week but with California so limited they are quickly selling out as well. Quality on onions is not good and prices are moving up.
